achievement
I was working at a well-paying job with a bright future…and I was miserable. I figured it was better to do what I loved than play it safe. So I took an internship in New York and never looked back.
Inspiration
Great works by other people inspire me. Movies, music, books…and other photographers.
Insight
Without current technology, I wouldn’t be able to professionally function, especially when I travel. Being able to preview images, begin the editing process and send out preliminary selections to everyone involved is a huge advantage, and is only possible with the right system.
My advice: cultivate a self-belief and work ethic that can be illogical to other people. I once asked a famous photographer what advice would he give to a photographer wanting to start a career. He said; “Don’t do it.” I thought he was ridiculous. He then explained that people suited for the profession wouldn’t care what he said and would do it anyway. Then it made sense. To survive and be successful you can’t be deterred by what people think.
Dream
Loving your job isn’t a luxury most people enjoy. So being able to maintain an independent business doing what I love for a lifetime is a dream come true. Of course it requires sacrifice, self-belief, talent, a relentless work ethic and a lot of help to become successful. But it’s an incredibly satisfying feeling when the risk pays off and you become self-reliant. Technology is an enabler in that process.
